With the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) just around the corner, several members of the groundstaff at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai have tested positive for coronavirus. With number of cases rising in Maharashtra, IPL franchises have started feeling a little wary and are keeping fingers crossed.
With the matchup between MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rishabh Pant led Delhi Capitals (DC) scheduled on 10 April at Wankhede Stadium, an official told ANI that this news calls for stricter protocols.
IPL 2021: Captaincy will take Pant's game to the next level, says Mohammad Kaif
“You do get a little concerned when you hear such things days before the start of the tournament. We have all been following protocols to the core, but obviously, when such a news comes in, it makes us a little wary. We are looking at keeping things as tight as possible. Have to be on our guard,” the official said.
Another official said that this just serves as a wake-up call for everyone before getting into the tournament as well as it prevents us from getting comfortable.
“This could actually serve as a wake-up call before the start of the tournament. Sometimes we tend to get a little comfortable after going inside the bubble. But this will ensure we follow every protocol and there is no messing up,” he said.
The Wankhede stadium in Mumbai is set to host 10 IPL games from April 10-25 and four franchises Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals have set up their base in Mumbai as of now.
