England all-rounder Ben Stokes received a hate comment on social media for playing in Indian Premier League (IPL). He handled it very well and shut down the troll with his befitting reply.

The Twitter user targetted Stokes, who is part of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchise, for playing IPL. He wrote that the all-rounder is chasing money in the cash-rich league and not giving his 100% to the England team.

"Chasing a pound note again, once back in an England shirt will be too tired to bowl ????????," wrote the Twitter user.

To which Stokes responded and asked him when was he tired to bowl for England? "When have I ever been too tired to bowl in a England shirt pal???", read his reply. 

The 29-year-old is excited to play IPL in India again and he is hoping for spectators to be allowed in the upcoming season after some time. "It's great for the competition that it's come back to its roots (India) after taking place in Dubai last year, which was an achievement in itself.

"Fingers crossed that fans will be allowed back in at some point during this IPL because they are a huge part of this game and why we play.

"It was an amazing feeling to have fans back in the grounds on our [England's] recent tour of India - even though 100 percent of the crowd were against us! Being back in the thick of that atmosphere was amazing!", he said in a video for Sky Sports Cricket.

Stokes also commented on the increasing number of England players in the IPL. There are 14 England cricketers in the fray in IPL 2021, and he said the league is helpful for the players. 

“Yes - the percentage of English players in the IPL has probably grown in the last five or so years. Not only is that great for the individual but it is also great for the players involved in the England set-up; it gives them experience in the most high-profile competition in the world but not only that - you are under constant pressure to perform,” he added.
