Rajasthan Royals (RR) will be looking to forget their performance in the IPL 2020, when they come out to play in the upcoming 14th edition of the Indian Premier League, the IPL 2021. RR had finished last on the points table with just 6 wins and 8 losses in IPL 13 in UAE.
This led to RR bringing in some changes in their squad, the biggest being releasing captain Steve Smith ahead of the IPL 2021 auction and freeing up INR 12 crores for buying other players. They also traded opener Robin Uthappa to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in an all-cash deal.
IPL 2021: Sanju Samson named Rajasthan Royals' captain for IPL 14
Rajasthan Royals put their fate in the hands of the new captain, Sanju Samson who will lead them in IPL 2021.
The IPL 2021 will be played from April 9- May 30 across six cities in India, behind closed doors. The venues are Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the playoffs and the final of the tournament on May 30.
Rajasthan Royals will face off against Punjab Kings in their first match of the IPL 2021, which will be played on April 12 in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
In the IPL 2021 auction, the Rajasthan Royals made the biggest buy in the IPL history when they bought South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris for INR 16.25 crores, breaking Yuvraj Singh’s record of INR 16 crores bid.
Other players bought by RR in IPL 2021 auction were Shivam Dube (INR 4.4 crores), Chetan Sakariya (INR 1.2 crores), Mustafizur Rahman (INR 1 crore), and others like Liam Livingstone, KC Cariappa, Akash Singh, and Kuldip Yadav.
Keeping in mind the squad of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), Team COC Presents to you the Best Playing XI for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021
The Rajasthan Royals (RR) had experimented with Ben Stokes opening the innings and he replied with some amazing knocks, including a century to boot for. In order to partner with him, RR has the options of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mana Vohra, Liam Livingstone, and even Sanju Samson to send as an opener.
If the new captain Sanju Samson doesn’t open the innings, then he is expected to be slotted in at the no.3 spot, where he can dictate the innings and anchor one end of the innings. He will have the company of Jos Buttler who is also expected to keep wickets.
Joining Buttler in the middle order will be the young Riyan Parag, who had an excellent outing in IPL 2020, proving himself to be an able finisher as well. This time, however, Parag will have the help of big-hitters like Shivam Dube and Chris Morris in the later half of the RR playing XI.
IPL 2021: Rajasthan Royals appoint Kumar Sangakkara as director of cricket
Last year’s find of the IPL 2020, Rahul Tewatia will be at the helm to bowl his four overs and continue plastering the opposition bowlers as he did in the previous IPL edition. He is expected to be partnered in the spin department with the dependable Shreyas Gopal, who might have something to prove after a lukewarm IPL 2020 outing.
Chris Morris and Jofra Archer will bring in the heat in terms of pace in the RR fast bowling department and RR have the option to pair them with Jaydev Unadkat or Mustafizur Rahman to bring the left-arm pace variety and ability to nail the yorkers in the death overs.
Unfortunately for the RR team, Jofra Archer will not be available for at least the first four matches that they will play in the IPL 2021 as he is recovering from surgery on his finger and also from his elbow issues. He will be recuperating for two weeks and then will be evaluated by an expert before being cleared for IPL 2021 season.
IPL 2021: Chris Morris ready to spearhead RR pace attack in Jofra Archer’s absence
Apart from these players, RR has the option of using Andrew Tye, Mayank Markande, Mahipal Lomror, David Miller, and Kartik Tyagi in the bowling department.
