Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Suresh Raina congratulated Rishabh Pant on being appointed as the captain of the Delhi Capitals (DC) for the IPL 2021.

Delhi's captain last season, Shreyas Iyer got a serious injury during the ODI series between India and England. He has been ruled out of the upcoming IPL and DC picked Pant to lead the side.

Raina, who has been like a mentor and big brother for Pant, took to Twitter and said he believes the youngster would become a "talismanic" leader.

"Heartiest congratulations to @RishabhPant17 on being named the captain of @DelhiCapitals for this season. I am sure he will be a talismanic leader and will be donning this new cap with pride," he tweeted.

Pant's first match as captain for Delhi Capitals will be against MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings on April 10. The 23-year-old is ready for the challenge and he said it feels like dream come true for him to lead DC.

"Delhi is where I grew up, and where my IPL journey began six years ago. To lead this team one day is a dream I've always harboured. And today, as that dream comes true, I feel humbled," said Pant.

"I am truly grateful, especially to our team owners, who considered me capable enough for this role. With an amazing coaching staff, and a plethora of accomplished seniors around me, I can't wait to give my absolute best for Delhi Capitals," added Pant.
