IPL 2021: ‘Franchise will always be there for any assistance’, DC extends support for injured Shreyas Iyer

Iyer is ruled out of the entire IPL 2021 season due to a shoulder injury.

Shreyas Iyer | IANSIndian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday (March 30) extended their unconditional support for Shreyas Iyer, who is ruled out of the entire IPL 2021 season due to a shoulder injury.

According to a report published in ANI, Iyer will undergo surgery on his left shoulder after another round of check-up.

DC’s regular skipper injured his left shoulder during the opening ODI against England in Pune on March 26.

Taking to Twitter, Capitals said the franchise will always be there for any assistance and support Shreyas may require at any step.

"Shreyas has taken DC to newer heights ever since he took on the role of captain, leading the team to its very first final last year. The franchise will always be there for any assistance and support he may require at any step," DC said in a statement.

"Shreyas will be missed immensely, and we cannot wait to see him in DC colours once again. We wish him a speedy recovery," it added.

Meanwhile, wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been appointed as Delhi’s captain for the upcoming IPL season.

"When I sustained the shoulder injury, and Delhi Capitals needed a leader for this edition of the IPL, I had no doubt that Rishabh would be the best man for the job. He has all my good wishes to make amazing things happen with our absolutely incredible team. I am going to miss the team tremendously, and will be cheering for them throughout," said Shreyas in a statement issued by Delhi Capitals.

IPL 2021 is due to begin on April 9, with defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the tournament opener at Chepauk.

DC will open their campaign against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 10 in Mumbai.
