IPL 2021: Ajay Ratra roped in by Delhi Capitals as an assistant coach

Ratra will assist Ricky Ponting in IPL 2021 for the last year's runners-up.

The Delhi Capitals (DC) have made an addition to their team management with former Indian cricketer and current Assam coach Ajay Ratra as their assistant coach for IPL 2021.

Ratra was excited and honored for getting an opportunity to work with such a talented side in his opinion.

The 39-year-old said in a statement, "I am honored to join Delhi Capitals as Assistant Coach. This is a very exciting team to work with, abundant with talent. I can't wait to meet the team and contribute to its success. I am grateful to the Delhi Capitals management for giving me this wonderful opportunity."

Ratra was the head coach of the Assam team during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy in the recently concluded domestic season.

He has coached the Punjab team as well back in the day and has worked with the Indian women's cricket team as a fielding wicketkeeping coach. It will be his first stint with an IPL franchise when he joins the Capitals.

DC CEO Vinod Bisht said, "We would like to welcome Ajay Ratra to the Delhi Capitals family. His experience, as player and coach will be invaluable, as we look to take the franchise from strength to strength. We are excited to have him on board, and wish him all the very best for the upcoming season."

Ratra will join Ponting, Mohammad Kaif, James Hopes, and Pravin Amre in the DC coaching setup.
