Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer will undergo surgery on his left shoulder after another round of check-ups next week and after that, the date will be fixed for the surgery.
Shreyas injured his left shoulder which he partially dislocated during the first ODI of the ongoing three-match ODI series against England in Pune on March 26.
The source close to the developments told ANI, “While it is confirmed that he would be undergoing surgery, Shreyas would be examined by the surgeon next week and the date of surgery would be decided thereafter. Surgery would take place around 10-14 days from now.”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday announced that Iyer has been ruled out of the remaining two ODIs against England due to the injury and will be leaving the bio-bubble to have surgery that will keep him out of action for few months.
The BCCI media manager said before the second ODI on Monday, “Iyer has been ruled out of the remaining two ODIs, he will be exiting the bubble.”
It is being said that Delhi Capitals captain Iyer will miss the upcoming 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 after deciding to undergo surgery as it will take time to recover to return to action.
Following the announcement, Iyer took to Twitter to thank his fans for showing love and support and has vowed to come back stronger soon.
He tweeted: “I've been reading your messages and have been overwhelmed by all the outpouring of love and support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone. You know what they say, the greater the setback, the stronger the comeback. I shall be back soon.”
DC’s co-owner Parth Jindal also wished Iyer a speedy recovery by tweeting, “Absolutely devastated and gutted for our skipper @ShreyasIyer15- stay strong captain - hope for a very quick recovery. Have full faith that you will come back even stronger from this. India needs you in the T20 World Cup.”
