Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has started preparing for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He along with few other CSK members are training at Chepauk a month before the IPL 2021.
CSK's fielding coach Rajiv Kumar observed Dhoni's training in the first week and spoke about it in Episode 1 of AnbuDen Diaries. He liked Dhoni's understanding of his body and game which isn't among many 40-year-old.
“You know how smart MS (Dhoni) is. He understands his body, he understands his game. Not too many 40-year-old men assess the ball that clearly, and his determination is great to see.
"Every session he is coming with a certain plan, and he is working on it. We are just trying to figure out how to get the best out of him,” CSK fielding coach said in a video posted by the franchise on social media.
Another CSK batsman, Ambati Rayudu is practicing with Dhoni in the pre-season camp. Rayudu talked about the challenges he faced on returning to training after a long break.
“It’s always hard to start after a break because, after Mushtaq Ali, I’ve not played much cricket. It’s been about a month and a half (without cricket), so it takes about 6-7 sessions to get back into that rhythm. Also, to understand where I need to be. We all understand where we need to be, but where we are right now is the most important realization. It is about knowing where my game is at the moment,” Rayudu said.
The IPL 2021 will start on April 9 and CSK are playing their first match on the next day against Delhi Capitals in Mumbai. The Dhoni-led side had a forgetful outing last year. They failed to reach the playoffs for the first time and would be looking for a strong comeback this season.
