Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab Kings on Friday (March 12) announced appointment of former Australian cricketer Damien Wright as their new bowling coach for the upcoming IPL 2021.
He joins Punjab Kings support staff comprising Anil Kumble, Head Coach and the Director of Cricket Operations of Kings XI Punjab, assistant coach Andy Flower, batting coach Wasim Jaffer, and fielding coach Jonty Rhodes ahead of the upcoming 14th edition of the IPL 2021.
The 45-year-old Wright has the vast experience in coaching having previously worked as head coach of the Bangladesh U-19 cricket team and as the bowling coach of the New Zealand team. He also coached Hobart Hurricanes and the Melbourne Stars in Australia’s Big Bash League.

Punjab Kings took to Twitter to announce Wright’s appointment for IPL 14 by saying “Wright has come to the right place. Another Aussie on-board! #SaddaPunjab #PunjabKings,”
On his signing, Wright said: “I am delighted to come on board as bowling coach for Punjab Kings. The team looks great and there is tremendous potential in this squad and I look forward to working alongside an amazing support staff team this season of the IPL.”
Meanwhile, Kumble said: “He brings in a great deal of experience and will definitely help strengthen our team. We look forward to working with him this edition of the IPL.”
Noteworthy, KL Rahul-led Punjab Kings will start their IPL 14 campaign against Rajasthan Royals in Mumbai on April 12. The tournament will kick start on April 9 in Chennai.
