A total of five stadiums have been shortlisted for hosting the IPL 2021 season in India around the month of April but nothing has been made official as of now.

As the COVID-19 situation in India is much better than what it was during IPL 2020, it has risen the possibility of IPL 2021 being conducted entirely in India.

BCCI Treasurer Arun Dhumal had told IANS last month, "As of now it has been decided that the IPL should be happening in India. In case the same situation prevails (with declining Covid-19 cases in India), then it should happen in India."

"We want to do it in India as the IPL is an Indian league. Hopefully, the situation remains the same. It would depend on how safe it is to have eight venues. Maybe we can think of a hub. We will take the final call according to the situation," he added.

As a result, five stadiums have been shortlisted to host the entire tournament as opposed to about 8 in the pre-COVID editions of the IPL. Four stadiums in Mumbai - Brabourne Stadium, Wankhede stadium, DY Patil stadium, and the Reliance Stadium are likely to host the league stages while the newly-constructed Motera stadium in Ahmedabad might host the playoff games.

An official told IANS, "At the moment there are discussions to host the league matches in four stadia in Mumbai -- Bradbourne Stadium, Wankhede Stadium, D.Y. Patil Stadium, and the Reliance Cricket Stadium. The play-offs are expected to be held in the refurbished Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera."

"However, this is yet to be made official. The tournament is likely to be hosted either in mid-April or the second week of April," he added.
