Australian limited-overs captain Aaron Finch went unsold in the IPL 2021 auction in which a lot of his mates from down under made merry earning huge paychecks.
Finch played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2020. In 12 matches, he scored just 268 runs at an average of 22.33 at a strike rate of a meager SR of 111.20. His performance in the UAE was below par and was enough to end the stint with his 8th IPL team.
As a result, Finch went unsold in IPL 2021 auction and it wasn't something that he had not expected.
Aaron Finch told cricket.com.au, "It would have been nice to be playing again. It’s a wonderful competition to be a part of but it wasn’t unexpected that I wasn’t picked up, to be honest. I’d prefer to be playing cricket, but a little bit of time at home won’t be the worst thing."
The 34-year-old will lead Australia in a five-match T20I series against New Zealand from Monday, February 22. Before the series, he has made a few technical changes to his batting.
He said, "I’ve been working a few technical things; trying to get a little bit less weight on my front foot. At times I can get a little bit flat-footed and my feet get planted then I struggle to move again – I have my initial movement then I get a little bit stuck."
"I’ve talked a lot and worked a fair bit with Andrew McDonald, who I go back to every time things don’t seem quite right and he seems to sort it out pretty quick. It’s been nice to have a good chunk of training and focusing on a few little technical changes," Finch revealed.
