New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has said that the possible clash of dates between the IPL 2021 and New Zealand's Test tour of England is unfortunate, but he wants to wait and watch before making his choice.
With New Zealand cricket allowing its players to choose between playing in T20 leagues and national team, it is expected that several high profile players like Trent Boult, Kyle Jamieson, and Lockie Ferguson, apart from Kane Williamson, might stay with their IPL team, in case the dates clash with two-Test series in England.
The dates of the IPL 2021 is not finalized yet, but it is expected to spill into June month.
"Carrot of WTC final at end, helped New Zealand shape its campaign," says Kane Williamson
"It's certainly not the preferred thing. I know when plans were put in place that wasn't the idea then, but as we've seen, you can make plans in this day in age, and very rarely do they go to plan. For us it's being able to adapt as quickly as possible, we still have to wait and see when dates are finalized to truly know what is happening before any decision is made but the ideal scenario is to be available and around for all that cricket. We'll just have to wait and see,” Williamson was quoted by Cricbuzz.
The two Tests at Lord's and Edgbaston starting on June 2 were a late addition to New Zealand's FTP and not part of the World Test Championship. But they do give Williamson’s team a chance to practice in English conditions before the ICC WTC final which begins on June 18.
