Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Ashish Nehra believes that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) may get Kedar Jadhav back in the IPL 2021 auction in Chennai on Thursday.

After a horrific IPL 2020 where the three-time IPL champions failed to qualify for the knockout stages for the first time in the lucrative tournament’s history, CSK released six players - Kedar Jadhav, Murali Vijay, Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla, Monu Kumar Singh, and Shane Watson.

While Watson had retired from T20 franchise cricket, the MS Dhoni-led franchise would look to get some rich talents at the IPL auction 2021 to bolster their chances in the upcoming IPL 14, and Nehra feels Kedar is someone CSK would like to get back into the squad from the list of released players.

CSK has seven available slots to fill with a purse of INR 22.9 crores at the auction and the former Indian cricketer said the franchise would like to get the all-rounder at a lesser price on February 18.

Nehra told Star Sports: “It is difficult but I see Kedar Jadhav as the only player they could go for. If they can get him at a lesser price as I think he was around 8 crore or so. Those things are very important. Other than that, I don't think they will go for any of the other players they have left.”

CSK has only one overseas spot to fill at the IPL auction for the upcoming season and Nehra said all-rounders Shakib Al Hasan and Moeen Ali are the best options for the franchise to grab, given the fact that Dhoni loves to have players in his team who can both bowl and bat.

He added, “Shakib Al Hasan and Moeen Ali are the best options I see for this team. MS Dhoni likes those types of players as both of them bowl and bat. Whether they play their matches in Chennai or in the UAE, wherever it is, both these players have experience of the IPL.”

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra feels CSK may look to fill the top-order with an overseas batsman with Watson no more available in the tournament.

Chopra said: “They have just one overseas spot. I feel they should have released a few more players so that they could give themselves a chance. Since they have not done that, only one overseas can be picked which will be a top-order batsman. So, either Shakib, Maxwell, or Moeen - there can be only one out of the three, not even two out of these three.”
