Kings XI Punjab have formally changed their name to Punjab Kings (PBKS) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 auction. On Wednesday (February 17), their official Twitter account shared the new logo and name of the franchise.

Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul spoke about the change and said the reason to remove 'eleven' from the name is to show the team is beyond 11 members.

"I felt like I like the name Kings XI but a team is lot more than just 11 players. So, it was supposed to feel like a family, feel like a unit. Just a little wouldn't harm and I am quite confident that it will bring us some good fortune this year," Rahul said.

Punjab-based franchise's new name received a mixed response on social media. Mostly, fans were not happy with the change and they felt the old name and logo were much better.

The short form of Punjab Kings will be PBKS which surprised many fans. Some felt they could have gone with PK.

Before going to auction, PBKS have a spot left for nine more players, only three of them are for an overseas player. They have a good purse amount of ₹53.20 crores.
