Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris made a bold remark ahead of IPL 2021 auctions and said that anyone who pays 10 crores will be making a foolish decision.

With less than one month remaining for IPL 2021 auction, all franchises including Kings XI Punjab have already come out with their list of retained and released players and it was no surprise to see that Glenn Maxwell, who was drafted into the side last season for a whopping price of 10.5 crores, is also among the five overseas players who have been released.

Glenn Maxwell in the last season failed to put the stage on fire with his bat consistently, even though the management kept backing him.

The hard-hitting Australian batsman, in the 11 innings he played, failed to hit a single six. He faced 107 balls without hitting a maximum, something that does not go along with Maxwell's style of play.

Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris expressed that Aussie player is unlikely to fetch a big amount in coming up auctions and said it would be illogical to spend million dollars on the 32-year-old.

IPL 2021: "Someone might buy Glenn Maxwell for 10 crores" says Ajit Agarkar

“The answer is if anybody pays anything close to that sort of 10-crore mark, they have got rocks in their head. It is that simple. We all know how good a player he is, and that is not the question. The talent is there, but the talent has outweighed the actual performances we have seen from Glenn Maxwell, ” Scott Styris told Star Sports network.

Styris said signing maxwell for IPL 2021 will be a big risk for any team so he shouldn't be paid more than his base price.

“I think there will be someone who takes a chance on Maxwell, but it should only be something like base price. And you hope you strike lightning in a bottle and you get lucky and that he is in good form and he somehow manages to turn around what has been a pretty disappointing five or six years in the IPL, ” he said.

Glenn Maxwell scored just 108 runs at a strike-rate of 101.88 from 13 matches he played in the previous edition.
