Former India wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel has been officially released by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise after announcing his retirement in December 2020.

Parthiv posted a jibe at the franchise after being named in the released players' list for IPL 2021. His post felt sarcastic with the choice of words and construction of the tweet.

"An absolute honour to be released after being retired . ... thank you @RCBTweets," he wrote on Twitter.

Parthiv was not given a single opportunity in the IPL 2020 and he had to warm the bench for the whole season. He moved to RCB in 2018 and got to play only six matches that season. He featured in all the games in the 2019 edition and scored 373 runs with a strike-rate of 139.17.

Following his retirement, the 35-year-old joined defending champions Mumbai Indians as a Talent Scout. Parthiv was part of the franchise in 2015-2017.

Apart from RCB and MI, Parthiv has played for Chennai Super Kings (2008-2010), Kochi Tuskers Kerala (2011), Deccan Chargers (2012), Sunrisers Hyderabad (2013).

RCB Released Players: Umesh Yadav, Chris Morris, Moeen Ali, Aaron Finch, Isuru Udana, Dale Steyn, Gurkeerat Mann, Shivam Dube, Pawan Negi, Parthiv (retired).
