Chennai Super Kings (CSK) the three-time champions couldn't live up to their expecations and had their worst ever season in Indian Premier League (IPL)'s history as for the first ever time they didn't qualify for the play-offs and finished at seventh position.
CSK began their campaign with an impressive win over defending champions Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi but after that they couldn't maintain the momentum and kept losing matches after matches, and resultant they were the first team to get eliminated from play-offs race. Although they finished their disappointing season with three back-to-back wins.
When it comes to performances, Sam Curran was their stand out performer as he stepped up both with bat and ball. The likes of Faf du Plessis and youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad too did well with the bat.
Captain MS Dhoni, Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja and Deepak Chahar didn't do well and that's the major reason behind their poor performance and the likes of Imran Tahir, Lungi Ngidi and Josh Hazlewood didn't get enough games to show their talent.
