Former Mumbai and Orissa first-class cricketer Robin Morris has been arrested by the Versova police for his involvement in betting in the ongoing 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in the UAE.

44-year-old Morris along with two others were caught betting on the IPL 2020 matches that have been played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The police arrested the trio and accused them of allegedly taking bets during the IPL 2020 and also revealed that they had received specific information about betting activities at Morris' house at Yari Road, Versova.

The cops also seized laptops and cellphones from the cricketer’s home in Versova and the former bowler will be in police custody till he is presented in the Magistrate court on Monday, November 9.

Canada-born Morris, who played 42 first-class games and 51 List A games for Mumbai and Odisha between 1995 and 2007, also played for India Under 19 team in the 1995-96 series against South Africa Under 19.

He was also part of the now-defunct Indian Cricket League (ICL) where he had represented Mumbai Champs in the tournament.

According to a report in Times of India, a police officer said: “Morris was involved in taking bets on an IPL match. Laptops and cellphones were seized from the flat.”

Noteworthy, the three have been booked under provisions of the IPC and Gambling Act after police seized several mobile phones, two tablet gadgets, and cash worth Rs 9,000 from Morris’ flat.

This is not the first time when the former cricketer was arrested for wrongdoing as, last year, he along with four others were arrested for kidnapping a loan agent from Kurla to recover Rs 2 lakh and in fact, he was accused by Al Jazeera TV for spot-fixing in T20 tournaments.
