IPL 2020: WATCH- Moeen Ali commits hara-kiri, gets run out on a free hit; amused Twitterverse reacts

It is very rare to see a batsman getting out, runout off a free hit in international cricket.

Ali got needlessly run out on a free hit | BCCI/IPLThe Eliminator match of the IPL 2020 playoffs between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is perhaps one of the most pressure-filled encounters in this tournament. SRH won the toss and put RCB into bat first.

SRH started off well by removing RCB skipper Virat Kohli (6) and Devdutt Padikkal (1) for cheap. Though Aaron Finch (32) and AB de Villiers added 45 runs for the third wicket, Finch was soon caught by Abdul Samad off Shahbaz Nadeem.

This bought Moeen Ali on the crease, who came into the team for injured Chris Morris. Ali is known for his big-hitting prowess and has the second-fastest ODI hundred for England in 53 balls. Much was expected of him, especially with AB de Villiers at the other end and looking for someone to partner him till the end.

Shahbaz Nadeem had bowled a no-ball to De Villiers before that and this bought Ali on strike for the free hit. Ali hit the full ball outside off stump straight into the hands of Rashid Khan in covers and took off for a non-existent run. Rashid aimed at the stumps and hit it directly, even before Ali was in the frame, and got him out by atleast 3-4 yards.

It was a throwaway wicket, and something like that was no expected off an experienced player like Moeen Ali and hence the Twitterverse including some of the cricketers, both current and former reacted to this needless gift of the wicket to SRH.
