IPL 2020: "This is why helmet should be mandatory," says Tendulkar after Kulkarni got hit

Tendulkar had showed concern over safety of the batsmen who removed helmet for spinners.

Mumbai Indians (MI) cricketer Dhawal Kulkarni copped a blow on his helmet against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Tuesday. It reminded everyone of Sachin Tendulkar's tweet about the safety of a batsman earlier the same day.

Sachin had made a post writing about the mandatory use of helmet despite spinners bowling the over. Usually, batsman prefers cap while playing the spinners, but the ex-India cricketer pointed out that they may need a helmet while running between the wickets too.

The tweet came after SRH batsman Vijay Shankar got knocked down after being hit in the helmet by a throw from Kings XI Punjab fielder Nicholas Pooran.

“The game has become faster but is it getting safer? Recently we witnessed an incident which could’ve been nasty. Be it a spinner or pacer, wearing a HELMET should be MANDATORY for batsmen at professional levels. Request @ICC to take this up on priority,” Tendulkar wrote.

Kulkarni's incident on Tuesday proved Sachin's tweet right once again, as he got hit by a throw on the back of his helmet while running two on the last ball of their innings.

A piece of the helmet can be seen detached after the blow which shows how hard it hit the safety gear. If he wasn't wearing the helmet, it could have been a fatal head injury.

"Another example of why helmets need to be made mandatory. Thank God my friend @dhawal_kulkarni was wearing one.", Sachin posted after the incident.
