IPL 2020: "I put a lot of pressure on myself earlier in the season", says Pat Cummins

IPL 2020: "I put a lot of pressure on myself earlier in the season", says Pat Cummins

Cummins took 4/34 as KKR came out victorious against RR and kept their campaign alive.

Pat Cummins | BCCI/IPLAfter an outstanding spell in the victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday (November 1), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Pat Cummins revealed he felt under huge pressure at the start of the season in UAE.

Cummins, who became one of IPL's wealthiest picks when KKR bagged him for INR 15.5 crores at last year's auction, struggled initially in the tournament but has since recovered to find his best rhythm.

The ace Australian quick's opening burst was too good for the Royals in Dubai as he finished with figures of 4/34 to help KKR restrict RR to only 131/9 in the second half, having themselves posted a massive 191/7. With this performance, Cummins took his tally for the season to 12 wickets at an economy rate of 7.86.

"A lot goes through your mind. First few balls weren't great. As long as you go back to bowling your best balls, it's alright. Top of off is always that area for me, there was a bit early in there with the new ball," Cummins said at the post-match presentation, as quoted by ANI

"So, I was trying to get as many in there as I can. Not really, don't think I expected to get all wickets like that. Some days you bowl well and don't get luck, some days you get a bit of luck as well."

"Today, everything fell into place. I guess early on in the season, I put a lot of pressure on myself. As the tournament has gone on, I've got better and better. You're always learning," added the 27-year-old following the 60-run win that has kept KKR's playoff hopes alive.

Fourth in the points table with 7 wins in 14 matches, KKR need either one of Delhi Capitals (DC) or Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to lose with a massive margin on Monday (November 1), or Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to face defeat to Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday to secure their playoff berth.
