IPL 2020: Cricket fraternity reacts as CSK knock KXIP out of playoffs contention with a 9-wicket win

Ruturaj Gaikwad ended up making 62*, his 3rd consecutive fifty in IPL 2020.

Ruturaj Gaikwad remained not out on 62 | BCCI/IPLThe 53rd match of the IPL 2020 between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) proved to be the final match for both teams. CSK won the encounter by 9 wickets in a winning goodbye to IPL 13 and this loss meant that KXIP’s chances of playoffs’ qualification ended.

MS Dhoni had won the toss and chosen to bowl first. Deepak Hooda’s 62* and cameos from KL Rahul (29) and Mayank Agarwal (26) took KXIP to a fighting 153/6 in 20 overs. Lungi Ngidi picked 3/39, while Thakur, Jadeja, and Tahir picked one wicket each.

The chase of this modest target was never going to be a worry unless KXIP picked early wickets, but it was not to be. Faf du Plessis (48) and Ruturaj Gaikwad added 82 runs for the opening wicket in 10 overs. Then Rayudu (30*) helped Ruturaj, who made 62* to take CSK to the winning target with 7 balls to spare. It was Ruturaj's third consecutive half-century in this IPL 2020.

Chris Jordan was the sole wicket-taker for KXIP.

Unfortunately, KXIP’s gritty comeback in the tournament after losing consecutively in the beginning, came to an end with this loss in the tournament as with 12 points to their name, it is not possible for them to go into the top four.

The cricket fraternity reacted to this result of CSK winning the match and KXIP crashing out of the tournament on Twitter.
