IPL 2020: "Imagine this tweet 8-9 years ago," Pietersen takes a dig at ECB wishing Stokes and Archer

Pietersen had to butt heads with ECB to get permission to play in IPL in initial years.

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen is happy that the English cricketers are benefitting from the Indian Premier League (IPL). There was a time when the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) didn't readily send their players in the lucrative T20 league.

In the inaugural season of IPL, Dimitri Mascarenhas was the only England player signed because ECB refused to give NOCs to their other big-name players. It took some years before ECB embraced IPL fully and allowed all its players to participate.

On Friday, England cricket's official Twitter account posted best wishes for English cricketers, Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes.

They play for Rajasthan Royals (RR) and their contest was against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Pietersen responded to the tweet and said no one imagined ECB would post such a tweet on IPL 8-9 years back.

"Just imagine, IMAGINE this tweet 8/9 years ago...! I’m so happy these guys are benefitting positively from the IPL!", wrote.

Stokes has already made a century in this IPL 2020, while Archer is one of the leading wicket-takers in the tournament.
