West Indies cricket legend Brian Lara has expressed his views on the Chennai Super Kings' surprising poor run in the ongoing 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in the UAE.

It would be for the first time in the history of the IPL when MS Dhoni-led CSK would not part of the playoffs as the franchise has already eliminated from the knockout stages following a string of poor performances in the ongoing IPL 2020 in the UAE.

CSK has managed to win only 4 games of their 12 outings in the T20 league so far and for which captain Dhoni has been heavily criticized for not showing enough faith in the youngsters which somewhere played a significant role in their disastrous IPL 2020 campaign.

Well, Lara also believes that CSK has got “a lot of older players” in their team and their over-reliance on experience over youth played a role in their early exit from the IPL 2020. He also urged CSK to give its younger lot a chance in the remaining IPL 13 games.

Lara said on Star Sports' Select Dugout: “I think they (CSK) have got a lot of older players. There are not any young players coming through the line-up. You look at it. Even their overseas players, they have been around for a long time. So, they have backed experience over youth, and this has really turned upside down for them.”

He further said, “It's just an unbelievable season so far. You know, every time they turn up, we're very hopeful that CSK is going to turn it around. We all came here thinking this was going to be the time when Dhoni turns things around with his team.”

Lara signed off by saying, “And game after game, it just went, and they just kept hoping. But it's a situation where they can just to try to build from next year. In the few coming games that they have, see what they can do with the younger players they've got.”
