Gautam Gambhir has heaped praise on Shikhar Dhawan for his stellar show for Delhi Capitals (DC)  in the ongoing 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in the UAE.

The stylish Dhawan has been in brilliant form with the bat for DC, scoring 471 runs from 11 games including a record back-to-back hundred so far in the ongoing IPL 2020. He is also among the top getter in the IPL 13 with KL Rahul (KXIP) currently leading the chart with 595 runs in 12 games.

Last week, Dhawan scored 101* against CSK and followed by another unbeaten knock of 106 against KXIP to become the first batsman in IPL history to score two centuries on the trot and Gambhir said: “the record itself is a huge achievement” for the Delhi batsman in the T20 format.

Gambhir said on Star Sports show Cricket Live before DC v SRH IPL 13 match on Tuesday: “First thing, the record itself is a huge achievement! No other Indian has done it. In fact, no other player has done it in the IPL. Two back to back hundreds, that too in a T20 format.”

Former cricketer-turned-commentator further reckoned that the experienced Dhawan’s form with the bat is a very big plus point for the Capitals at this stage in the ongoing tournament.

Former DC captain further explained, “The more important thing about these two centuries, is the timing, the time at which they have come when the Delhi Capitals need to peak. If your most experienced batsman peaks at this moment and is in his best form, then it's an advantage for DC.”

He was also confident that DC will reach the playoffs of the IPL 2020 having 14 points from 11 games and they need just 2 more points to qualify and the Capitals would certainly like to get against the SunRisers Hyderabad on Tuesday evening in Dubai.
