Earlier Kings XI Punjab won the toss and opted to bowl first. Glenn Maxwell gave them a good start by removing Nitish Rana for a golden duck in the first over and then in the second over Mohammad Shami dismissed Rahul Tripathi and Dinesh Karthik and reduced Knight Riders to 10/3. Shubman Gill and Eoin Morgan counter-attacked and scored 81 runs in the next 8 overs and brought their team back into the match.
But Morgan was dismissed by Bishnoi for 40 runs. After some over Gill brought up his fifty but he too couldn't score quick runs and got out. In the end, Lockie Ferguson's cameo of 24* runs helped Knight Riders to post a fighting total of 149/9. For Punjab Mohammad Shami took 3 wickets while Jordan and Bishnoi took 2 wickets.
In reply, KL Rahul and Mandeep Singh gave a decent start of 47 runs in 8 overs and at the same score, Varun Chakravarthy dismissed KL Rahul. Mandeep Singh and Chris Gayle continued to score runs and made the chase and both the batsmen also brought up their respective fifties and in the 19th over they chased down the target and clinched their fifth consecutive victory.
