IPL 2020: "De Villiers-Kohli partnership was like a coma, I even took a nap," says Sehwag

RCB couldn't post a competitive total and lost against CSK by 8 wickets.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 8 wickets in the IPL 2020. It was their second meeting in the tournament and CSK had nothing to lose, while RCB was aiming for the top two spots.

Batting first, RCB posted a total of 145/6 in 20 overs and it never looked enough for them to defend. Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag was not happy with the way Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers batted in the middle-overs.

Virat scored a half-century but he took 43 deliveries and couldn't accelerate, while his partner De Villiers got out on 39 off 36 deliveries.

“But what’s this? AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli batted together from the 7th over onwards. However, till the 18th over their partnership seemed to be in a coma. I even took a power nap in between.

“When I woke up they were still batting at the same pace. They hadn’t started to go for the big shots. And then de Villiers got out in the 18th over and the CSK bowlers were able to restrict RCB to 145/6,” Sehwag said in his show ‘Viru ki Baithak’.

Sehwag was happy with Dhoni's captaincy in the match and said he looked like the vintage version of himself.

“We got to see MS Dhoni back in his ‘full captaincy mode’ on Sunday. He seemed like the Dhoni of the past, making fantastic decisions on the field. He made good bowling changes, and picking Santner was a smart decision. He used Deepak Chahar and Sam Curran fully in the death overs,” he said.

CSK chased down the target with 8 balls left and it was a superb Ruturaj Gaikwad who made the chase easy with his 65* off 51 deliveries.
