Delhi Capitals pacer Kagiso Rabada on Thursday (October 22) heaped praise on Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, saying the latter has been unbelievable as a young captain having shown the world his ability to lead the side from the front at this big stage.

The Capitals have shown tremendous improvement under the leadership of Iyer, who has so far scored 335 runs in the ongoing IPL 2020 and also look one of the strong contenders for the trophy this season.

At the moment, DC is leading the points table with 14 points from 10 games and in line to get into play-offs for the second consecutive year, shedding off the tag of underachievers in the IPL as they need just one more win to qualify for the IPL 2020 playoffs.

The South African, who is currently the holder of the Purple Cap being the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2020 with 21 wickets in 10 games so far, feels the liberal environment in the dressing room and in the camp has been the main reason behind the DC’s success in the ongoing IPL 2020.

Rabada said in a virtual press conference: “Shreyas has been really unbelievable as a captain. He is young. For a captain, especially when you are leading an overseas player on a big stage, (it) is a huge task. So, he has done really well so far. He is leading from the front.”

He added, “Shreyas is just a normal guy who is chilled out and when we get on the field, he is a captain who has to make decisions and I am sure Ricky (Ponting – the head coach) is helping him. Delhi has a very liberal environment and it is probably one of the reasons we have been successful.”

Meanwhile, Rabada also had a suggestion for his DC teammate Tushar Deshpande, saying: “Tushar needs to learn a lot. He just needs to take it game by game. He has not bowled badly at all even in the last game. Like I said it is just about those minor adjustments. What he has do is learn from his experiences and that's how is gonna get better.”

The 25-year-old speedster also pointed out that the UAE wickets are very different from the Indian turfs while explaining how the turfs have been playing a trick with the bowlers in the tournament.

He said, “The conditions have been different from India and wickets have been tricky. We have been playing in the same venue and at certain times on fresh wickets and at times on used wickets. They all play quite differently. Sharjah was really flat at the beginning then it sorts of slowed down.”

Rabada signed off by saying, “Wickets are offering some seam movement sometimes especially the wickets in Abu Dhabi. But all the pitches are definitely on the slower side like India but different kinds of slower and bowlers have to work had to churn out wickets.”
