IPL 2020: MS Dhoni shouldn't be batting lower than number 5 for CSK, opines Ajit Agarkar

A loss to MI in the upcoming encounter on Friday will eliminate CSK from the playoffs race.

The ongoing 13th edition of the Indian Premier League 2020 was expected to be the big return for legendary cricketer MS Dhoni, unfortunately, things have not quite gone to the three-time IPL winning captain’s way, struggling both as a batsman and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain in the UAE.

Dhoni, arguably being the greatest finisher in the history of white-ball cricket, is struggling to finish games and even could manage only 164 runs in 10 matches for CSK in the ongoing IPL 2020.

However, it is fact that the CSK captain came into IPL 2020 completely underprepared having played last competitive fixture World Cup semifinal against New Zealand at Old Trafford on July 10, 2019 and that might have been affecting his game with many believing his timing and reflexes not matching.

For CSK too, the ongoing IPL 2020 has not been good so far as the franchise is currently placed on the bottom of the points table with just 6 points from 10 games.

Well, ahead of CSK’s next IPL 13 clash with Mumbai Indians on Friday, former Indian pacer has opened up about CSK and Dhoni’s woes in the ongoing tournament, saying the skipper should not bat anywhere below No.5 in the batting lineup especially when there is no Suresh Raina firepower for the season.

Agarkar told broadcaster Star Sports: “In my opinion, MS Dhoni shouldn't be batting lower than number 5. It will obviously depend on what the situation is, but the lowest he should go is number 5.”

He added, “He is arguably one of the greatest cricketing brains to ever play the game. He can see things and access situations which other players can't, and you can see, as the tournament progress, his form is getting better as well. So, he shouldn't be batting lower than number 5 for me.”

Meanwhile, Agarkar wasn’t also impressed with Dinesh Karthik's decision to hand over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captaincy to Eoin Morgan in the middle of the ongoing IPL 13.

He signed off by saying, “I don't think replacing Dinesh Karthik after seven games when you're sitting fourth in the table is the right move.”
