Mumbai Indians defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 8 wickets at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi and registered their sixth win of the tournament while Kolkata Knight Riders suffered their fourth loss.
Earlier Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and opted to bat first. The poor form of Knight Riders' top order continued and the likes of Rahul Tripathi, Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik, and Andre Russell got out without doing anything and at 61/5 they were in deep trouble.
New captain Eoin Morgan and Pat Cummins rebuilt the innings and their unbeaten 87* runs partnership helped Kolkata to finish on 148/5 in 20 overs. Pat Cummins played a good knock of 53* runs while Morgan scored 39* runs.
In reply, Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma gave a flying start and the wicket-keeper batsman kept smashing all Knight Riders bowlers and these two took the score to over 90 runs in 10 overs. Rohit Sharma got out for 35 runs while Suryakumar Yadav helped with 10 runs. At the other end, De Kock was rock solid and his 78* runs off 44 balls knock took his team home in the 17th over.
