IPL 2020: Cricket fraternity reacts as Karthik hands over KKR captaincy to Morgan

Eoin Morgan will lead Kolkata Knight Riders for the rest of IPL 2020 after Dinesh Karthik steps down.

Dinesh Karthik | IANS Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Dinesh Karthik on Friday (October 16) decided to quit the team's captaincy and hand over the reins to Eoin Morgan for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

Karthik had led KKR in the first seven games of the competition with mix results, the two-time champions winning four and losing three of their fixtures so far. The Indian wicketkeeper had first taken over as skipper upon joining the KKR set-up in 2018.

While the current decision did come as a shock to many, the leadership mettle is only being shifted to capable hands, with Morgan's captaincy credentials hardly in doubt.

Before reuniting with the KKR franchise after seven years, the left-hand batsman had taken England to their maiden ODI World Cup title in the summer of 2019.

However, with such a big move being made in the middle of the season, Cricket fraternity reacted in surprise and hoped that things do go right for KKR, the two-time champions.
