Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) batsman Chris Gayle made a comeback with a half-century to his name. He played his first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 and scored 53 off 45 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Friday (October 15).
After completing his fifty, he pointed at his bat sticker which read 'THE BOSS'. He was clear with his words when asked about it after the match. "All I was saying, put some respect on the name [by pointing to his bat sticker]. That’s all.".
Apart from Gayle, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal were the other two scorers in the 172-run chase. While Rahul scored 61*, Mayank added 45 before getting out.

The southpaw was batting at number three, which isn't his usual batting spot. But he took the responsibility and ensured a victory for KXIP. Although when he got out, Punjab was still worried for their win as they needed one run off the last ball, Nicholas Pooran smashed a six and sealed the second victory for KXIP this season.
“It was a very sticky surface, very slow, but it was better batting second. Team asked me to do a job at 3 and it wasn’t an issue. Openers have been batting well throughout the tournament and we didn’t want to disturb that. As I said, I was given a job and took it,” he further added.
On his fitness, he said, "I thought it was important to keep fit, I don’t like being on the bench but I was enjoying it, and apart from the sickness I have been getting fitter.”
