For Delhi Capitals (DC) off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, winning "Purple" or "Orange" Cap is not that important and what matters to him is the contribution towards victory.
In IPL, the top run-getter holds the 'Orange Cap' while the highest wicket-taker gets the 'Purple Cap'.
"Such numbers don't matter. Purple and Orange Cap is an eye-wash. It's about contributing towards victory, playing your roles (in victory)," Ashwin said on his YouTube Channel answering to a fan's question about whether strike-rates are over-rated and all the statistical inputs at times are over-hyped or not.
Ashwin then cited an example how a defensive stroke could be the demand of the situation at certain stage of the game.
"If you are nine wickets down with 10 runs to get and you might end up playing a defensive shot off the fifth ball of the 19th over. It is as per the need of the team. This is just for analysis," he remarked.
Ashwin also advised the fans not to mix "analysis, criticism and praise" and asked them to enjoy the game.
"Enjoy yourself and watch the sport," he said.
In the ongoing IPL, Ashwin has claimed 6 wickets from 5 games at an average of 18.50 and economy-rate of 7.40.
