IPL 2020: ‘Bowling to MS Dhoni felt surreal’, says KKR leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy

IPL 2020: ‘Bowling to MS Dhoni felt surreal’, says KKR leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy

Varun dismissed Dhoni in KKR's 10-run win over CSK.

Varun Chakravarthy bowled brilliantly against CSK | IANSSharing the experience of bowling to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy on Wednesday (October 7) said it was a surreal moment for him.

Furthermore, getting the wicket of Dhoni at the crucial juncture of the game was icing on the cake for Varun, who has claimed five wickets from four games in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 so far.

Chasing 168 to win, CSK’s middle-order once again faltered under pressure after Shane Watson (50 off 40 balls) and Ambati Rayudu (30 off 27 balls) gave the team a solid foundation with a 69-run stand for the second wicket.

The likes of Dhoni (11), Sam Curran (17), Kedar Jadhav (7*) and Ravindra Jadeja (21*) failed to make a mark with the bat as CSK fell 10-run short of the target.

"I was feeling the pressure when Mahi bhai was at the crease because three years back I used to go to Chepauk and I used to watch the matches just because of Dhoni. Bowling to him was a surreal moment for me," Chakravarthy told Rahul Tripathi in a video posted on iplt20.com.

“The pitch was really flat against CSK. Mahi bhai was going really well. I just thought that if I can land the ball on a good length, I might take his wicket, thankfully I was able to execute it really well. After the match, I took a picture with Dhoni sir as well," he added.

Earlier, Knight Riders got bowled out for 167/10 in 20 overs. Tripathi (81 off 51 balls) was the lone warrior with the bat for KKR.

With the ball, Pat Cummins (0/25), Kamlesh Nagarkoti (1/21), Varun Chakravarthy (1/28), Sunil Narine (1/31) and Shivam Mavi (1/32) did a brilliant job as KKR registered their third victory after five games.
