Rajasthan Royals’ star all-rounder Tom Curran has reflected back at the team’s performance in the 12th match of the ongoing IPL 2020 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday (September 30), which RR lost.

Barring Curran, the other RR batters surrendered against KKR as their clinical bowling display from the Kolkata bowlers led the Royals to face their first defeat in the ongoing IPL 2020. Kolkata registered a thumping 37-run win over the Royals on Wednesday night in Dubai.

Chasing the target of 176, the RR side suffered a top-order collapse as the half of the Royals’ batters were back in the pavilion with just 42 runs on board with in-form skipper Steve Smith (3), Sanju Samson (8), Jos Buttler (21), Robin Uthappa (2) and Riyan Parag (1) losing their wickets cheaply against KKR.

However, Curran tried his best to avoid a humiliating defeat with his fighting innings of unbeaten 54 runs off just 36 balls laced with two boundaries and three sixes, but lack of support from the other end couldn't help RR cross the line as KKR registered a thumping 37-run win over Royals in Dubai.

Following the defeat, Curran admitted that RR lost too many wickets which led them to suffer a big defeat against the KKR. However, the English pacer was feeling good with his batting show but lamented it came in the losing cause but hoping to contribute to winning performances in the coming games.

He also revealed that the message was sent out to the batsmen by the RR management to be aware of the net run-rate as it can play a part in the IPL 2020 going ahead.

Curran said in a video posted by the RR on its official Twitter handle after the game: “We kept on losing wickets and obviously, in a run-chase, if you keep on losing wickets, it always makes it hard.”

He further explained, “We just lost too many wickets. It got to a stage where the message came out that the net run rate might come into play at the back end of the tournament. It was about to taking it deep and targetting the shorter boundary to get us as close we can.”

The all-rounder concluded, “I am feeling good with the bat, the match against KKR gave a chance to get some runs, but this is all in a losing cause and it doesn’t feel that great. I have been striking them well and hopefully, I can contribute to winning performances moving forward.”

Noteworthy, the RR will next take on Royal Challengers Bangalore on 3rd October in Abu Dhabi.
