IPL 2020: Washington Sundar in awe of AB de Villiers’ ability to perform multiple tasks

De Villiers scored fifty and also performed the role of a wicketkeeper against MI.

AB de Villiers | IANSHe might have left international cricket more than two years ago, but AB de Villiers continues to dazzle the fans with his unparalleled skills in T20 leagues across the globe.

The former South African is currently plying his trade in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

On Monday (September 28), De Villiers smashed 55 not out off 24 balls and also performed the role of a wicketkeeper as RCB registered a nail-biting win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Super-Over.

Impressed by his ability to perform multiple tasks, RCB spinner Washington Sundar wondered if there is anything AB can’t do.

"Tell me one thing that he cannot do, whatever the team needs him to do he will do, he will be more than happy to do and he has been doing that for so many years for RCB," Sundar said at the post-match press conference.

"It adds a lot of balance and he behind the wickets also gives bowlers a lot of thought process and he adds a lot of value to the team," he added.

Coming to the match, both the teams scored 201 in their stipulated 20 overs before RCB edged past MI in the one-over eliminator.

Navdeep Saini conceded 7 runs and got rid of Kieron Pollard in the Super-Over while AB de Villiers and Kohli helped RCB to knock off the runs against Jasprit Bumrah.

"He (Saini) has been amazing not just this year but the last couple of years also. He has been very good and he is going from strength to strength," Sundar said.

"He did the same thing for the Indian team also, to be able to bowl such a 19th over with two set batsmen, and when Hardik (Pandya) and Pollard are at the crease in the Super Over, to be able to give just seven runs is amazing.

"It shows so much character and how much he has got that hunger (to succeed), so much credit should go to him," he further remarked.

In a game where over 400 runs were scored, Sundar impressed one and all by recording the figures of 1 for 12 in his four overs and he sounded pleased with his performance.

"I did some planning coming to this game and I was happy that I was given this role, and I enjoy bowling in power-play. It is all the more fun when two great batsmen are playing and when you have got two fielders outside the circle.

"(I am) very glad that the captain has got so much confidence (for me)," he said.
