Rajasthan Royals' young wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson yet again produced a fantastic performance with the bat to guide RR to a 4-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the 9th match of the ongoing IPL 2020 in Sharjah on Sunday (September 27).

On Sunday, Samson played a match-winning knock of 85 off 42 balls to help Royals chase the highest-ever run chase – 224 in the IPL history successfully with 3 balls left against KXIP at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. His entertaining knock was laced with 4 boundaries and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 202.

Following his Player of the Match display, Samson has revealed that his frustrating 2019 helped him rejuvenate himself. The Kerala star also revealed that he did “a lot of soul searching” and then decide to give his everything in the upcoming games. of his career

Samson told the broadcaster Star Sports after the match: “I think I have been hitting it well for the last year. So I’m in the right frame of mind. I can see a change in my game and my fitness. I was really fed up with myself last year. I had been trying very hard but things were not happening. Then I really went back to myself, did a bit of soul-searching and I really asked myself lots of different questions. Like, ‘What do I want to achieve in my life?’ and ‘Where do I want to reach until my cricket career finishes?’”

He added, “I decided that I have ten more years to play this wonderful game, so I decided to just give my everything towards cricket and nothing else. My family, friends and everyone is really supportive and I’m really happy that I’m giving my whole energy towards cricket - and it’s giving back to me,”

Meanwhile, Mayank Agarwal’s 106 off 50 balls went in vain as it was not enough for KXIP to secure a win as RR chased down the target in the last over on the back of brilliant half-centuries from Steve Smith and Rahul Tewatia apart from Samson’s heroics with the bat on Sunday.

The enthralling encounter also saw the second-highest opening stand in the IPL’s history between Agarwal and KL Rahul- who had scripted the highest opening stand of 183 runs stand on Sunday.

Presently, the Royals are unbeaten in the ongoing IPL 2020 and are standing at the second position behind Delhi Capitals with 4 points on the points table. The RR will next take on Kolkata Knight Rider on September 30 at Dubai International Stadium in the IPL 13.
