With the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans not much pleased with Virat Kohli’s poor run in the ongoing IPL 2020, India captain’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma has come out in support of RCB skipper, saying people shouldn’t forget he is not a human-machine.
Kohli is known to be a captain who always leads the team from the front, but in the ongoing 13th edition of the IPL, the dashing batsman has so far forgettable outings for the RCB, scoring 14 against Sunrisers Hyderabad and 1 against Kings XI Punjab in the tournament.
Besides his horrible batting show, the 30-year-old wasn’t good on the field as well as he dropped a couple of catches, which saw KXIP winning the game by a whopping margin of 97 runs, leading the RCB skipper to face a lot of heat on the social media with the fans criticized him for being a failed captain.
However, Kohli’s coach Mr. Sharma backed the batting maestro to come back strong in the ongoing IPL 2020 while insisting such dips in performance are an integral part of a sportsperson's life.
He further said the benchmark and high standards set by Kohli make his fans impatient so quickly and sad even with his one bad innings and they usually forget he is only human and not a machine.
Speaking to ANI, Rajkumar Sharma said: “It is just a part and parcel of a sportsman's life. You have good days and you have bad days on the pitch. It is just that Kohli has set such a benchmark that people forget he is only human and not a machine.”
He further pointed out, “You are bound to have off days and there is nothing wrong with it. People will ask if there is some technical issue or a mindset issue, but I will again say that it is a part of the game. You cannot succeed every time you walk onto the pitch. Kohli's fans have been so used to seeing him perform consistently that even one bad innings make them sad.”
On the two easy dropped catches against KXIP, Sharma said: “Firstly, as I said before, these things happen. Anybody can miss a catch or two. Even Jonty Rhodes missed a catch here and there. Javed Miandad was considered a great fielder and if you go back and look, he also did slip once or twice.”
He signed off by saying, “So, this has nothing to do with patience or the urge to set the tone after the resumption of cricket. It is just a bad day on the field which can happen to even the best. He has played enough cricket to come back strongly and lead from the front.”
