Rajasthan Royals defeated Kings XI Punjab by 4 wickets in a high scoring thriller at Sharjah Cricket Ground in Sharjah last night and registered their second consecutive win of the tournament.
Earlier Rajasthan Royals won the toss and asked Punjab to bat first. The in-form opening pair of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal gave a good start and later Mayank Agarwal took his game to another level and brought up his maiden IPL hundred of just 45 balls. KL Rahul also completed his fifty and they added 183 runs for the first wicket. In end, Pooran's cameo helped Punjab to post a big total of 223/2 on the board. Mayank Agarwal scored 106 runs off just 50 balls while Rahul scored 69 runs.
In reply, Rajasthan Royals had a poor start as they lost Jos Buttler cheaply but Steven Smith and Sanju Samson counter-attacked and kept their team in the match. Smith got out just after scoring his 50th run. Samson continued to play big shots but Rahul Tewatia who was promoted to number four struggled as he managed only 8 runs off the first 19 balls.
Samson got out after playing 85 runs off 42 balls' knock. In the last 18 balls Royals needed 51 runs and all of a sudden Tewatia changed the gears and hit 5 sixes off Cottrell over and in the next over Jofra Archer smashed 2 sixes and Tewatia brought up his maiden IPL fifty and eventually in the last over Rajasthan Royals chased down this record target of 224 runs.
