Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Shreyas Iyer provided the all important update on the fitness of the ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin before their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 clash against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Dubai International Stadium on Friday (September 25).

Following the toss against CSK, Shreyas revealed two changes in DC XI – one of which was leg-spinner Amit Mishra replacing injured Ashwin while Avesh Khan came in for Mohit Sharma in the 7th game of the ongoing IPL 2020 in Dubai.

DC continued with their winning run in the lucrative tournament, thrashing CSK by 44 runs on Friday to be unbeaten in the IPL 2020 in their two games so far.

Ashwin suffered the injury during DC’s tournament-opener against Kings XI Punjab on Sunday after picking up two wickets in quick succession. The ace spinner injured his shoulder when he dived trying to save a run off the last ball of his first over and hurt his shoulder and he had to leave the field immediately along with Capitals' physio Patrick Farhart.

At that time, the injury looked a lot worse, as Ashwin was moaning in pain and used his jersey as a temporary sling with many believing it could have been a shoulder dislocation, however, the next morning, the senior spinner had insisted he felt a lot less pain and DC captain hoped to have him back for the next clash against the CSK, but he didn’t return.

On Friday, Shreyas has insisted that Ashwin is recovering well but the ace spinner will miss the coming 2-3 games for DC in the ongoing IPL 2020.

Shreyas said at the toss against CSK in Dubai: “We have two changes -- Amit Mishra in for Ashwin and Avesh Khan for Mohit Sharma.”

He further added, “Ashwin, I feel is doing pretty well, but we wanted to give him rest for two-three games so that he feels better. He's doing well in the gym. He’s doing well in the gym. He had a bat in the nets yesterday.”

Noteworthy, Delhi Capitals will next play Sunrisers Hyderabad on 29th September and Kolkata Knight Riders on 3rd October.
