IPL 2020: “I had told Samson he will be the next Dhoni,” Shashi Tharoor supports Gambhir’s claim

Gautam Gambhir had claimed that Samson is currently the best young batsman in India.

Sanju Samson | IANSSanju Samson once again left his fans in awe as he heralded Rajasthan Royals to a win against Chennai Super Kings in their opening IPL 2020 encounter in Sharjah. Samson has often been called one of the most talented keeper-batsman in Indian cricket, but he hasn’t done justice to his talent.

However, his knock of 74 runs in 32 balls, which were sprinkled with 9 sixes, got him unanimous acclaim from all quarters of the cricketing fraternity. He helped RR make 216 runs in 20 overs batting first, which proved enough for a 16-run victory over three-time champions CSK.

IPL 2020: Sanju Samson reveals, "Worked on fitness and power-hitting skills during break"

Gautam Gambhir, former India captain, heaped rich praise on Samson and called him “not just the best wicketkeeper batsmen in India but the best young batsman in India” on Twitter. He was even up for debate with anyone on this issue.

He received support from Congress leader and an MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Shashi Tharoor, who tweeted, “No argument from me @GautamGambhir ! I have known him since he was a kid. At 14 I told him he would be the next @msdhoni. He has the ability & is developing the self-belief. All he needs is the breaks!

Sanju has time and again showed what he can do and his IPL stats show his talent, as he has 2283 runs in 94 matches with two centuries to his name and 11 fifties at a strike-rate of 132.11 and an average of 28.18.

He has added a new dimension of hitting sixes to his game and Indian selectors might take notice of him if he continues his rich vein of form in IPL 2020.
