IPL 2020: Cricket fraternity praises RR's 16-run win starring Sanju Samson; Faf du Plessis' effort goes in vain

Jofra Archer added one wicket to his 27* in 8 balls.

Faf played a magnificent knock of 70 odd runs | IANS The 4th match of the IPL 2020 saw Rajasthan Royals (RR) crushing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a display of absolute power-hitting in Sharjah. MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl first, knowing the possibility of dew.

Though they got an early wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal, what followed next was pure carnage as Sanju Samson (74 with 9 sixes) and captain Steve Smith (69) added 121 runs for the second wicket in just 9 odd overs. Piyush Chawla was hit for 55 runs in 4 overs for one wicket, but the bashing didn’t end there, despite Sam Curran picking 3/33 in middle overs.

Jofra Archer slammed 30 runs in the 20th over of the innings bowled by Lungi Ngidi to take RR’s final score to 216/7, with Ngidi going for 56 runs.

In reply, Shane Watson started well with 33 in 21 balls, but others struggled to get going. Faf du Plessis hit 72 in 37 balls with 7 sixes and was the lone CSK batsman taking on the RR bowlers. In the last over, MS Dhoni slammed three sixes off Tom Curran to take CSK to 200/6 but lost the game by 16 runs.

Leg-spinner Rahul Tewatia was the pick of RR bowlers with figures of 3/37.

The cricket fraternity was happy with RR’s performance, especially Samson, Smith, and Archer with the bat, and praised the team effort as a whole.
