Young Indian all-rounder Ravi Bishnoi opened up about his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dubai on Sunday (September 20).

KXIP came out on the wrong side of the result in their opening IPL 2020 encounter losing to DC in the thrilling super over; however, there were plenty of positives to take for the side including the 20-year-old spinner who finished with 1/22 from his four overs in his debut match in the IPL 2020.

His figures are impressive since he was bowling all his overs outside the powerplay and even against the batsmen Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant who are brilliant against the spinners.

Following the debut, the wrist-spinner Bishnoi has admitted that he was more excited than nervous, but enjoyed every bit of his IPL debut and was focused on performing well for the KXIP.

Bishnoi told KXIP’s website after the match: “I was a bit nervous in the beginning, but it was more excitement than nervousness for me to make my debut. I just wanted to do well and help my team win.”

The youngster further insisted that he had no special strategy in mind against Pant, saying: “Bowling against Pant, there was no set plan or strategy in place, I just kept sticking to the basics, didn't try another out of the box. Just kept bowling how I normally would.”

On being asked about his plans in the IPL 2020, Bishoi said he just wants to keep the batsman second-guessing him with a range of variations he has in his arsenal.

He signed off by saying, “The idea is to try and play with the mind of the batsman, deceive him with my variations. I don’t want to give the batsman what he expects. If I start off with two-three leg breaks, then the batsman is ready for those types of deliveries, that’s when I bowl the googly.”
