West Indies and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran on Sunday (September 20) became the first-ever player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to register two ducks in the same game in the ongoing IPL 2020 in the UAE.
Pooran, who made his IPL debut in the IPL 2019 with the KXIP, had a night to forget, as the franchise suffered a defeat in their IPL 2020 opener against Delhi Capitals in a thrilling Super Over in Dubai- where the West Indian dismissed for a duck twice in one match on Sunday.
Chasing a target of 158 against the DC, Pooran scored a duck off 3 deliveries and it was KXIP’s 3rd wicket to fall in only the final over of the Powerplay, but soon Mayank Agarwal’s 89 off 60 turned the game in favor of the franchise and the game headed into the Super Over.

Later, the KXIP surprisingly chose KL Rahul and Pooran in the super over but it backfired as Kagiso Rabada dismissed Rahul for 2 and Pooran for 0 as DC sealed victory on Sunday.
This was the first such instance in the history of IPL when a batsman dismissed for a duck twice in a single match – in the original game by R Ashwin and he had the opportunity to make amends but failed miserably and castled again by Rabada on the third ball of the super over on Sunday.
With the latest dubious feat, which is referred to as an “unofficial pair” in the T20 cricket, he left-handed batsman has become the third batsman to do so, joined Australia's Moises Henriques and Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik.
Malik scored a pair playing for Pakistan International Airlines as a part of the Advance Telecom Ramadan T20 Cup against Habib Bank Limited in Karachi, but his pair was more unique since he was dismissed for a golden duck in both innings- making it a ‘King Pair’.
On the other hand, Henriques scored two ducks for Sydney Sixes on January 10, 2014, in the Big Bash League game against Perth Scorchers.
