Former Australian captain and Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has opened up about his equation with the Indian cricket legend and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly.

Ganguly, who has been known for revolutionizing the Indian cricket in the early 2000s with his never-say-die attitude, and Ponting have faces each other on many occasions when the rivalry between India and Australia on the cricket grounds intensified at the time.

However, the two legends share a great relationship and have also worked together for Delhi Capitals in the last edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Recently, Ponting has revealed that he was the first man to wish Ganguly when he was appointed president of the Indian cricket board while saying the BCCI did a brilliant job by appointing the former captain for the greater future of the Indian cricket.

Speaking on InsideSport’s ‘Amstrad Face 2 Face Cricket Series’ show, Ponting said: “When he became the BCCI President, I was the first one to wish him. He and I have a great working relationship since our playing days and we have worked together at Delhi Capitals as well last season.”

He added, “I think BCCI has done a brilliant job putting together the IPL and it was only a few months back that I was discussing the possibilities of the IPL taking place with the DC management.”

The 45-year-old also questioned the SOP laid down by BCCI as part of the bio-secure protocols for the IPL 2020 in the UAE, saying the players found it tough to follow the strict COVID-19 guidelines.

Ponting signed off by saying, “The restrictions and protocols have been very tight and probably haven’t been that enjoyable for the players but as we get some matches under the belt I think everyone is going to settle down.”
