Ricky Ponting expects Virat Kohli to have a fantastic IPL this year | IANSFormer Australia skipper Ricky Ponting on Monday (September 21) named who he feels will be the most dangerous player from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) during the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In a video series for cricket.com.au, Ponting previously went about revealing similarly impactful names from Mumbai Indians (MI), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) – the franchise he has been associated with as a head coach for the past three seasons.

In the latest edition of the series, Ponting picked Virat Kohli as RCB’s most dangerous man.

“RCB's danger man for this season, as it is with every season, is Virat Kohli. I keep saying one of the best, but this guy is the best. Along with Steve Smith, the most rounded, most complete batsman in the game,” Ponting said.

“Having watched enough close and personal in the last two or three seasons of the IPL, there is no doubt that he has taken himself to another level as a T20 batsman. He'll open the batting or slot himself at 3, but if you look back at his career, if he's in and the game is on the line, then his team generally tends to win more often than not. So, Virat Kohli danger man for RCB,” he added.

Virat Kohli has been playing for RCB ever since the inception of IPL in 2008. He has represented the Bangalore-based franchise in 177 games so far, amassing 5412 runs at an average of 37.85, including five tons.

However, RCB are yet to win an IPL title with Kohli at the helm of affairs.  Under his captaincy, the franchise has failed to qualify for the play-offs in the last three seasons. While he had an extraordinary year with the bat, smashing four centuries in IPL 2016 wherein they reached the final, RCB finished 8th, 6th and 8th in the eight-team table in the subsequent editions.

RCB will open their IPL 2020 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad on September 21.
