IPL 2020: WATCH - Ricky Ponting picks his most dangerous player from Delhi Capitals

Ponting believes this player will carry the momentum forward in his career into IPL 2020.

Shreyas Iyer | IANS Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach Ricky Ponting named who he feels will be the most dangerous player from his team for oppositions during the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In a video series for cricket.com.au, Ponting previously went about revealing similarly impactful names from Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), last year's finalists, who will also kick-off the IPL 2020 with an encounter in Abu Dhabi on September 19.

In the latest edition of the series, the former Australia captain chose his team's skipper Shreyas Iyer to perform consistently and help the Delhi franchise lift their maiden title.

Ponting is feeling confident of a good season for Iyer through the fact that he has been in some really good form since his return to India's ODI and T20I outfits after the 2019 World Cup.

The 25-year-old has been captaining Delhi very well since taking over from Gautam Gambhir midway through the 2018 season. Under Iyer, Delhi reached the play-offs last season after seven long years, a campaign where he was also a fine contributor with the bat.

"My danger man for Delhi Capitals this year is actually going to be our skipper Shreyas Iyer," Ponting was heard saying. "In the previous year, I would've said Rishabh Pant, and there is no doubt that he is going to bring a lot to the table again, but I've just got a feeling about our captain this season."

"He's had probably the best 12 months of his life. He has cemented his position in the current Indian (white-ball) team. I just think he is growing confidence and stature. So, I'm actually tipping him to be one of the leading run-scorers in the tournament."

"He'll probably bat No.3, he loves that position and has got a great ability to play spin through the middle-overs and I'm sure he'll win some games for us by himself of his own bat this season," he added.

Delhi Capitals kickstart their campaign against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Dubai on Sunday (September 20).
