IPL 2020: Sanjay Bangar eager to see how MS Dhoni manages fielding positions of senior CSK players

CSK will start their IPL 2020 campaign against Mumbai Indians on September 19.

The MS Dhoni-led side is eyeing its fourth IPL title in UAE | IANSFormer India batsman and ex-batting coach Sanjay Bangar is looking forward to see how CSK skipper MS Dhoni manages the fielding positions of the senior players in the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), starting September 19.

Super Kings are going into IPL 2020 with the 'Daddies Army' tag as the average age of the squad is 31. The absence of Suresh Raina, who is not just a fine but a superb fielder, will also be a cause for concern for the three-time champions.

According to Bangar, Dhoni won’t have any issue when it comes to managing the experienced squad in terms of batting and bowling but it’s the fielding, which is a key feature in T20 cricket, can cause a bit of problem.

"MSD as a captain, I know has a lot of experience, he has other experienced players as well, but how will he adjust these experienced players on field is what I am eager to watch," Bangar told Star Sports Cricket Connected show.

"I do not think there will be any challenges he will face during batting or bowling with respect to these experienced players.

"The most challenging aspect will be considering the T20 format is based on athleticism and fielding plays a vital role in this format, how will he manage his senior players placing them on the field. I think this will be the most challenging part as a captain for him," he explained.

However, fielding is one department that doesn’t bother Dhoni much as he believes his troops have the ability to make up for it in other areas.

"We will never be a great fielding side, but we can be a safe fielding side. We might bleed a few runs here and there, but as long as we use our experience, we'll make it up with our batting and bowling," Dhoni had said during IPL 2019 wherein they reached the final.

CSK will start their IPL 2020 campaign against defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in the tournament opener in Abu Dhabi.
