IPL 2020: CSK’s Ruturaj Gaikwad to undergo two more COVID-19 tests

11 other CSK members along with Deepak Chahar have rejoined the team bubble.

Ruturaj Gaikwad will have to clear two more COVID-19 tests before rejoining CSK camp | TwitterChennai Super Kings’ young turk Ruturaj Gaikwad was one of the 13 members of the CSK contingent to test positive for the Coronavirus after landing in Dubai. However, 11 other members have rejoined the group after recovering from the virus and testing negative for it.

Even Deepak Chahar had resumed training after testing negative for the virus, but Gaikwad, who is pipped to take over Suresh Raina’s no.3 spot in CSK lineup, will have to undergo two more tests starting Sunday and if they return negative, only then he can join the team. This may also mean that he might miss a couple of games for this franchise.

"Ruturaj will undergo two tests as per protocol, today and tomorrow. If he tests negative, he will be back in the team hotel bubble. The other staff members have tested negative and are now back to normal. They are back in team bubble," CSK CEO KS Viswanathan told PTI on Sunday.

CSK might have to wait a bit as he undergoes COVID tests on Sunday and Monday before he rejoins the team. For Gaikwad, CSK will follow the established protocol and he will also have to undergo cardiovascular and lung function tests to ascertain his fitness if he clears the coronavirus tests.

He is expected to be open for selection only after a week, which means he might have to sit out of at least the tournament-opener on September 19 against Mumbai Indians and a few more matches after that.
