With the willow in his hand, West Indies opener Chris Gayle is a destructive force. While playing the T20 leagues across the globe, the southpaw often unleashes the 'Gayle Storm'. He is the only batsman in the world to score 13,000+ runs in Twenty20 cricket and hit 22 hundreds in the format, with the highest score of 175*.
Such is his impact with the bat that Gayle’s other skills such as bowling and fielding often go unnoticed.
On Monday (September 7), fans got a glimpse of Gayle’s athletic fielding during Kings XI Punjab’s (KXIP) practice session.
In a video posted by KXIP on Twitter, the 40-year-old Gayle can be seen catching the ball near the boundary rope. Just when he realised that he pushed the ball over the rope, Gayle regained his balance and popped it back in the playing area and completed the grab.
Fondly known as the Universe Boss, Gayle also celebrated after taking the catch. However, there is a question mark over the legality of the catch after a smart bit of camerawork that may not work in a match.
Here’s the video:
BCCI unveiled the IPL 2020 schedule on September 6 and it was confirmed that KXIP will open their campaign against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 20.
The 13th edition of IPL will kick-start on September 19. Defending Champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the tournament opener in Abu Dhabi.
